1. Grow your own food
One of the best ways to avoid having to go to the store regularly is to simply grow your own food at home. One of the reasons you might have to visit the store so regularly is due to the fact things like vegetables often have a very short best-before date.
By the time they’ve been picked, packed up in a factory, sent to the store and eventually made it onto the shelves, they could only have a few days left until they’re past their best. You can pick the produce when it’s at its best and have it washed and ready to eat within minutes. By growing your own food at home, you also know exactly what has been done to it. Another way to make sure you don’t have to go to the grocery store regularly is to make sure you make every single trip count. Plan all of your meals well so you know you’ll have just enough food to get you through the week.
Prioritise the meals you consume by which ones go out of date first. That way you won’t get to the end of the week and realise you’ll have to throw out one of your meals as it’s gone out of date. Make sure you write a thorough list before you leave so you don’t find yourself having to pop back for a little ingredient you’ve forgotten.
3. Batch cook
When you’re cooking a meal, don’t simply just cook one meal. By cooking a much larger quantity of the meal you’re making, you can then freeze some in containers to have another time.
Not only will this save you time having to go to the grocery store, but it’ll also save you time the next occasion you want to cook that meal as you’ll simply need to defrost and heat up your pre-prepared portion. The great thing about these is they’re also highly likely to be healthier than most of the ready meals on the market.
